Ciné Public: call for entries

CALL FOR ENTRIES - deadline 15 november 2016

Voor de vijfde editie van het kortfilmfestival Ciné Public kijken we weer met ongeduld uit naar bijzondere kortfilmproducties van opkomend filmtalent. Fictie, documentaire en animatie, alle genres zijn welkom, op voorwaarde dat de films zonder subsidie gemaakt zijn. Als extra duwtje in de rug is er voor de cineasten, naast een vertoning in Cinema Zuid op 11 maart 2017, meer dan € 3.000 aan prijzengeld te veil!

Deelnemen kan als:

• Je woont en/of studeert in Vlaanderen of Brussel.
• Je kortfilm (fictie, documentaire of animatie) is gemaakt in de periode 2015-2016 en maximum 30 minuten duurt.
• Je geen steun ontving van VAF, TAX Shelter of Screen Flanders.
• Je niet in opdracht werkte van een omroep of productiehuis.

Inzenden kan tot en met 15 november 2016.

Davinci Resolve Lite vs Studio Version

Is DaVinci Resolve 12.5 free?

A lot of people ask me is DaVinci Resolve 12.5 free?  Well the standard version is free formerly called DaVinci Resolve Lite.  The price for the paid version called DaVinci Resolve 12.5 Studio is $995.  But what is the difference between the paid and free version and should you spend $995 for the Studio version?

Is Standard (formerly Lite) good enough?

Well, the short answer is that for many projects, the free standard or lite version will work perfectly.  It has most of the features of the Studio version, and supports frame sizes up to 4K UHD.  But if you’re working in a high-end post-production workflow, especially if you’re working with multiple colorists, you may want to consider purchasing DaVinci Resolve Studio.

Blackjack, de Tervuurse thriller, wordt opnieuw vertoond op woensdag 19 oktober 2016.

Op 15 april 2016 ging de speelfilm ‘Blackjack’ van Piet Vandenpoel in première in het splinternieuwe cultureel centrum “Warandepoort” te Tervuren.  De zaal was uitverkocht en heel wat geïnteresseerden vroegen een bijkomende voorstelling.

Daarom wordt de film op woensdag 19 oktober 2016 opnieuw vertoond.

‘Blackjack’ is een razend spannende Tervuurse thriller.

Na de film volgt de ‘making of’: je krijgt een beeld achter de schermen hoe meer dan 60 vrijwillige medewerkers tot dit indrukwekkende resultaat kwamen.   

Mocht je de première gemist hebben of wil je deze film een tweede keer zien, dan is dit een mooie gelegenheid om deze film op groot scherm in ideale cinema omstandigheden mee te maken.

False color is one of the most effective exposure tools for digital cinematography out there. This quick tip explains how to understand your false color readout to achieve perfect exposure.

Most digital cinematographers are well versed in common in-camera exposure tools such as zebras or histograms, but few are familiar with false color. Unlike the more common exposure tools, false color is a feature usually reserved for higher-end broadcast monitors or EVFs. As such, younger filmmakers usually have less experience with it. They don’t use it to their advantage on set the way they should.

What is false color?

Using false color is one of the more interesting ways to gauge the exposure of a picture; think of it as having a special Instagram filter that changes original colours (or true colors) that the camera shows after being applied. Blackmagic Video Assist 2.2 - IBC 2016

Blackmagic Design has released Video Assist 2.2, a major new update for Blackmagic Video Assist 4K customers that dramatically improves DNxHD and DNxHR support, adds false color monitoring, expanded focus options and new screen rotation features. The Video Assist 2.2 update will be available for download from the Blackmagic Design website, free of charge for all Blackmagic Video Assist 4K customers.

The new Video Assist 2.2 update lets customers save DNxHD and DNxHR files in MXF containers which improves compatibility with Avid systems running on Windows and removes dependencies on the .mov file format. In addition, customers can now choose between DNxHD 220, 145 and 45 bit rates, or between DNxHR HQ, SQ and LB formats when recording.

The Video Assist 2.2 update also adds false color monitoring exposure tools to the Blackmagic Video Assist 4K. False color exposure tools make it easier to properly set exposure in different parts of the image by highlighting specific color ranges of luminance with a solid color overlay. For example, green indicates neutral grey, while pink tones are good references for skin, which is typically one stop over neutral grey. Using false color helps camera operators keep exposure consistent from shot to shot.

In addition, Video Assist 2.2 update also expands the options for focus assist so customers can now choose whether they want to see red, green, blue, black, white or traditional focus peaking indicators. This makes it easier for customers to accurately adjust focus in a wider range of scenes and under a variety of different lighting conditions. Customers will now also have the ability to manually control the screen orientation and turn off the auto rotate feature which makes it easier for customers to use Blackmagic Video Assist 4K with handheld gimbals and other equipment designed to move the camera and rig simultaneously.
