There are a lot of great tools out for grading and finishing. Cineform’s First Light has been out for a while now and Red Giant’s LUT Buddy was just released. Technicolor also released their CineStyle profile for Canon DSLRs and their documentation talks about using the included Look Up Table (LUT) in the post processing of your footage. The new Sony F3 will soon have a firmware upgrade that enables an uncompressed 4:4:4 S-LOG mode that utilizes LUTs. So, what exactly is a LUT?
There seem to be quite a few people out there who are not quite sure
why, when and how you should use a Look, Picture Profile, LUT or LOG
when your filming. I’m going to explain the basic differences between
them and run you through how to use them in the real world. There are so many LUTs, film stock emulation and scene files
available today that it can be hard to know what will work best for you.
I am also going to look at some of these available options and provide
some tutorials on how to use them. First of all let’s break down the difference between a LUT and a Look, scene file or Picture Profile. Naar Website

The MixPre-D sets a new standard for compact, high-performance portable
audio mixers. Powered by only two-AA batteries or 10-18 VDC, the
MixPre-D is designed specifically for audio professionals needing the
most flexible connectivity in production applications where capturing
great sound is important, but size and weight are a concern. The
MixPre-D is also a class compliant USB portable audio hardware interface
for Mac OS, Windows or Linux computers.
The Sound Devices 302 is a three-channel mixer that
features a compact size and intuitive design. All the controls that are
needed for operation are located on the front of the unit, making it
easy to operate even when in a bag.
Layout on the front panel is built for quick operation. You should be
aware that input two has a slide switch above it that reverses
polarity. It is a common mistake to activate this thinking that it is a
filter. When activated, the switch turns off input number two, so make
sure to check this setting. The audio quality of the 302 mixer is excellent. It packs a lot of
features into a low profile unit that is rugged and lightweight. This
time-tested mixer will provide years of reliable service in any
configuration.
We thought it was time to post a technical article for
those that may be interested or would like to know a little more about
how we go about recording sound with video.
This is often quite daunting for newcomers or those who
are just starting with the technique of ‘double heading’ when shooting
on DSLRs or similar camera technology. By the way ‘Double Heading’ is
simply an industry term for simultaneously recording video and sound on
separate systems i.e. a camera and a sound recorder.
