Een kort overzicht van de geschiedenis van de Khmer, de grootste beschaving in Zuid-oost Azie.

Ontstaan in de 9de eeuw en verdwenen in de 15de eeuw. Hun land strekte zich uit van Thailand tot Vietnam en van Laos tot Cambodia.

Meer dan 2 miljoen Cambodjanen werden gedood in de 2de helft van de 20ste eeuw, tijdens en na de Vietnamoorlog.

Er werden gedenkplaatsen voor de slachtoffers opgericht, de zogenaamde "Killing Fields".

Tot slot brengen we een bezoek aan een lagere school waar ze, met de weinige middelen waarover de leerkrachten beschikken,

de jonge kinderen onderwijzen.
