S5 Firmware 2.0: Will this Kill the S1H?!
The S5 just got the 2.0 Firmware update... or shall we call it UPGRADE. Now it can record external ProRes RAW over HDMI amongst other small worthy improvements. I used to say the S5 is a mini S1H, but now it’s more like the S1H killer. In this episode I’ll walk you though the camera setup and the new Raw Presets, then share a couple of interesting comparisons that might change the way you look at this camera. CORRECTION: C4K 420 8bit 50/60fps... not 10 bit
Panasonic's Auto Focus Sucks | Lumix S5 | 2.0 Firmware Update
In this video, I document my various test using the Panasonic Lumix S5's latest generation of their video autofocus technology. I am also using the latest firmware update for the S5 which gave the camera lots of new features including better autofocus recognition when filming in VLOG. So the question is does the autofocus for the Panasonic Lumix S5 suck? Well check out the video and let me know what you think? I also have loads of S5 test footage in this video if your curious about the image quality of this camera. The lenses I used for this test were the Lumix 20 - 60mm and the Sigma 35mm f1.4.

Panasonic Lumix S5 Review: BETTER than Sony a7 III, but one MAJOR problem...
The Panasonic S5 is a $2,000 full-frame mirrorless camera with 24 megapixels, sensor stabilization, 4k/30 (and 4k/60 cropped) video, eye detect autofocus. Those specs *almost* exactly match the Sony a7 III, which has been maybe the best-selling full-frame mirrorless camera since it was released in 2018.
Shockingly, the S5 is BETTER than the Sony a73! The rear screen is better, the viewfinder is better, the controls are quicker. Image quality, video quality, etc., are basically identical, but let's face it, none of that has really improved on any camera for several years. Where we're seeing improvments now is in autofocus and usability, where the S5 makes drastic improvements.
